Fintech major PhonePe is stepping deeper into the MSME space. On Wednesday, the company signed an MoU with SIDBI to provide end-to-end digital Udyam Assist registration for micro enterprises and merchants. The move aims to bring India’s vast network of informal micro enterprises into the formal economy, giving them easier access to schemes, credit, and digital payments.

The Partnership
The collaboration leverages PhonePe’s platform and SIDBI’s ecosystem reach to streamline the registration process through the Udyam Assist Platform. It is designed to reduce friction for small entrepreneurs who often struggle with paperwork and limited digital literacy.
Why it Matters
Formalisation is more than just a stamp of recognition. With Udyam Assist, IMEs gain eligibility for government subsidies, institutional credit, and access to the fast-growing digital payments network. For MSMEs, this means easier growth and survival in competitive markets.
The Bigger Picture
The pact highlights how fintech and policy can work together to reshape India’s micro-enterprise economy. By digitising the entry point, the partnership could accelerate inclusion for millions of entrepreneurs who form the backbone of India’s growth story.
